Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety

This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to work within the field of occupational health and safety as a supervisor/manager. You will develop skills to coordinate and maintain the OHS program within an organisation. You will develop a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised, technical or managerial competencies to plan, carry out and evaluate your own work and the work of others with safety responsibilities.

Combine your industry experience, with the skills and knowledge of this qualification, to further your career in the vital area of occupational health and safety. Learn how to manage and improve employee health and wellness across your workplace and industry to improve legislative compliance, productivity, efficiency and morale.

The units of competency for this course can be studied in clusters or individually and the cost of all materials required to complete the competency/s including assessment materials is included in the enrolment fee of each unit. see WA ResidentsNon WA Residents

Course Information

Prerequisite/Course Pathway
 
Certificate IV of Occupational Health and Safety (BSB41604) or equivalent,
Being familiar with computers for word-processing, databases and the internet is also an advantage.

Mature Age Entry
If you have left school and experienced a minimum of two years in a working environment, this course is open entry – free of minimum entrance requirements. However, prerequisite/course pathway requirements shown above must be met.

Study Options
This course is run as an adult distant education program with most students choosing the option to use the internet as their primary source of information.

Course Duration
Participants have six months from the date of enrolment in any subject to complete that subject. The recommended time for completion of a single subject is two months.



Start Times
There is continuous enrolment in the distance program.



Assessment
For each subject two pieces of assessment are required.

  1. The first assessment is activities.
  2. The second assessment is a written assignment.

Career Opportunities
Successful completion of this qualification and suitable experience provides you with the opportunity to become a supervisor/manager, or trainee manager in medium or large organisations within the area of occupational health and safety.

The Diploma prepares you for employment as a work health and safety practitioner and as such, carry out organisation of the safety and health functions within a workplace.
